Members, Club Leaders, Stubbers and EABC staff enjoyed!!! A busy, tiring and exhilarating week in Scotland honing their winter mountaineering skills. Two days of snow craft involving climbing a grade 1 winter Gully which is an extremely steep rock face covered in snow, learning how to swing an ice axe, use crampons without shredding your trousers, which some managed, and avalanche awareness followed by a two day expedition involving snow holing over night in the Cairngorms, which is like sleeping in your deep freeze except a bit colder, was a real test for our winter adventurers, as the pictures show.
The winter skills week is really the culmination of all our outdoor programmes and is there to inspire our young people to bigger and better challenges. If you think you are up for it then keep an eye out for our outdoor adventure weekends and weeks in the Lake District and maybe you will be tackling the wilds of Scotland in winter next year, yourself!
