On Wednesday 1 July 17 teams assembled at Gosfield Lake Golf Club for the second EABC Classic Golf Day of 2009. Amongst the teams were some long standing supporters including GCN Flooring, MacIntyre Hudson and also Frankie Caulfield. John Cassidy, Graham Goode, Micky Kingwell, Alan Hancock and George Saunders were also back in attendance and we are grateful for their continued time and support.
The teams enjoyed a full English breakfast before heading out on to the course. The competition was played over 18 holes to Stapleford Rules, with the best three scores out of four on each hole counting towards final totals.
During the 18 holes the teams also have a chance to compete for “nearest the pin” and “longest drive award.” After 4 ½ hours of golf in scorching temperatures the teams returned to the club house for the evening which comprised of a 3 course dinner and entertainment from George Saunders and Alan Hancock. A raffle and auction took place as well, compared by John Cassidy.
EABC are, as ever, very grateful to all who took part in the day and to all our generous sponsors and donators. About £4000 was raised for EABC, which will help us to continue our support for young peoples clubs in Essex.
Lastly we would like to thank Tony O’Shea and his team at Gosfield whose hospitality and welcome was faultless as always.
