Quintin and Paige touch down for the USA

As part of the Robert Laurie Bursary Scheme through EBGC, Sam Bayliss from Linford Wanderers FC along with Charlotte Welbourne from Manchester Clubs for Young People have recently returned from the USA where they took part in an exchange with Boys and Girls Clubs of America.  Whilst over there they got to see some of the Boys and Girls clubs in action and worked with some of the young people that take part in different clubs programmes and hopefully gained a few ideas to bring back to the clubs back home here in England.

Coming the other way Essex Boys and Girls Clubs and Manchester Clubs for Young People were pleased to welcome Paige and Quintin (pictured with the Mayor of Colchester) all the way from Spokane, Washington State and they took the time after a busy two and a half weeks to answer 10 quick fire questions about the time they spent here................

  • So lets get the important question out the way first what’s your favourite sandwich filling?

Paige: Meatballs no doubt!

Quintin: I’d have to say the ultimate supreme bacon cheeseburger

  • What’s been your favourite place in England?

Quintin: I’m a fan of the Trafford centre its a huge mall in Manchester and London was cool, there’s so many people packed into such a small area.

Paige: I liked the tour of London and hanging out with Sue in our house and Primark, I spent loads there!

  • What has been the highlight of your trip to England?

Quintin: Everything English!  The whole experience really.

Paige:  I agree its been ammmazzzzing

  • What has been the lowlight of your trip to England

Quintin: Hiking in the lake district

Paige: We hiked for five and a half hours, I could have done with a helicopter to get up Cat Bells!

  • What’s been most different about life in England compared to back home?

Paige: You guys work out more, you are always doing activities!

Quintin: People seem to smoke and drink at a much younger age than back home

Paige:  English houses are really close together and you have so many roundabouts!

  • Would you recommend doing the exchange to anyone in the USA and why?

Quintin: Yes its an unbelievable place, it’s way more diverse than back home

Paige: people are more innovative over here

Quintin:  Its also more diverse and you get to meet different people which helps you get outside the box when you think about your own life.

  • Whats the TV like over here?

Quintin: Too many reruns!

Paige: we have seen all your shows about 2 years ago!

  • What have you learnt about English Culture that has surprised you?

Paige: You guys cuss a lot.  I guess the main thing is just how much that we have in common

Quintin:  You start college over here really young.  Also just how much American stuff has an influence over here

  • What advice would you give to young people from Essex who in the future might get the chance to go to the USA on the exchange programme?

Paige:  Do it! Come visit us, don’t pack as much stuff as I did though!

Quintin: dress warm people, dress warm

  •  Finally describe your trip in three words?

Quintin: Fun, Fulfilling, Amazing

Paige: Ammmazzzinng, Splendid, Lovely!
